Darrell and Charmaigne Pullen from Kentucky changed their flight to stay one more day here in Fort Lauderdale to go fishing on the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep-sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. As the anglers boarded the boat, I asked Darrell what type of fishing he was interested in, and his response was, “I would love to catch a Sailfish or Shark”.

We headed out the inlet and started trolling by the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore at 120 ft. of water. If you venture off another quarter of a mile, you would find yourself in 500 ft. of water due to our extreme drop off.

We put out two #8 plainers with sea witches and doubled hooked Bonito strips. For surface baits we went with 4 Ballyhoos. We trolled the reefs ranging from 70 ft. of water out to 180 ft. of water, zig zagging in and out. We kept trolling to the north and headed towards some of our 34 artificial wrecks here in Fort Lauderdale. We started catching Kingfish around one wreck that sits in 150 ft. of water. The anglers took turns bringing in their catches and wound up with 6 Kingfish – one weighing in at 13 lbs.

The water was looking right to fly the kite, so we put out the kite with two live baits. We also put out Shark baits – one on the surface, one midrange and one on the bottom in 250 ft. of water. Sailfish on the short kite bait! The Sailfish came right out of the water jumping – what a site! Darrell was the angler, and did a great job bringing the Sailfish to the side of the boat. Dave, the mate, grabbed the bill for picture taking – it was a big Sailfish weighing 65 lb. Good job Darrell!

It was now time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.

The Davis family, Ed, Linette, Harrison and Reese, from Philadelphia chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The Davis’ were looking forward to getting out there and having a fun fishing trip.

We started trolling by the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale in 120 ft of water 1.8 miles from shore. We put out two kites with two live Goggle Eyes from each kite. We also put a dead Bonita bait 100 ft. down and another 200 ft. down on the bottom. Our target species were Sailfish, Mahi Mahi, Shark and Grouper.

Shortly after setting out the kite baits, a Mahi Mahi fed and we had one on. The Mahi Mahi jumped out of the water 4 to 5 times. Harrison was the angler, and he fought this Mahi very well. He ended up catching a 12 pounder – Mark, our mate, gaffed the Mahi Mahi and put him in the fish box on ice.

We set back up and went back to fishing our spread of baits, when all of a sudden we got a huge hit. The rod bent over and drag started ripping out. Ed hopped in the fighting chair and started battling this fish. I maneuvered the boat, constantly keeping the fish behind the boat, as he would make big runs to the surface then sound. Ed angled the fish up and it turned out to be an 8 and a half foot Hammerhead Shark. We got the fish up onto the boat, removed the hooks, got a few quick photos and released the Shark to fight another day.

It was now time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.

Mark Brigger, Tyson Marlor, John Todd, Marcus Thalman and Jeff Antry decided to charter the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The guys were looking for good fishing action, and that is what we set to accomplish.

We left the marina, and once we got out past the jetties, I made a right heading to the south of Fort Lauderdale and offshore where there has been some decent fishing action. We got about 4 miles to the southeast and started the day fishing with our best spread of four surface lines, which included three Ballyhoos, one surface chugger bait and two deep lines. We fished a 3 inch blue spoon and a seawitch with a Bonito strip.

As we were trolling south, I moved out deeper and back to shallower water looking for a current edge, color change and, of course, bait. Flying fish and schools of Ballyhoos are what we look for. Once we marked the bait on the sounder, I started getting bites around the 200 ft. depth. All the guys took turns catching Bonitos, one after another, biting on all the baits, from the swimming Ballyhoos on the surface to the deep line with the spoon and the seawitch. The best bite and fish of the trip was a really nice Wahoo that Mark caught on the plainer rod.

It was now time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316. We had a great trip with solid action and hope the guys return for some more fishing action in the near future.

JP Fyans, his wife, Kristin, and sons, 9 year old Jackson and 5 year old Chuck, were down in Fort Lauderdale from Illinois on a work/ vacation trip and decided to charter the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The boys were pumped up to get their first salt water fish – whenever we have junior anglers, we use light tackle spinners

We started fishing by the sea buoy in 110 ft. of water, 1.8 miles from shore north of Fort Lauderdale, using a chum bag and cut bait. Both Jackson and Chuck started catching Blue Runners, Rainbow Runners and File Fish. One after another, they took turns on the spinning tackle.

After the boys caught a bunch of fish, we then moved off to deeper waters looking for larger prey. We set out one live Goggle Eye bait and one dead bait on the kite and two deep baits, which were set at 200 ft. and 300 ft. We had a shark come up to the surface bait and attempt to eat the bait more than 5 times. He would charge the bait, then turn away and disappear. The Shark finally fed, and we set the hooks just for a short period before pulling the Shark off.

We reset our baits and waited for another opportunity. Along comes another nice Shark. This time he fed properly, and we got hooked up on the Shark. Our mate cleared out the rest of the lines, and JP started angling the Shark, with a lot of big runs, diving deep and from side to side – this Shark wanted nothing to do with us. JP brought the Shark to the side of the boat where we removed the hooks and took a quick photo. This awesome Shark was released to fight another day.

It was now time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.

Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak

Louis, Alexandra, Jeremy and Bree chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started out trolling in 150 feet of water north of Fort Lauderdale looking to target Blackfin Tuna. The fishing spread we used was: four surface lines with Tuna feathers and 2 deep lines with Ballyhoo’s. I worked from 100 feet out to 400 feet of water, zigzagging back and forth. These fish will move to different depths depending on the water and temperature. After working a reef structure and narrowing down the best conditions, we got a double header of Mahi Mahi bites. The anglers fought the Mahi Mahi’s, bringing both to the side of the boat. Matt, our mate, put them on ice.

We continued trolling north of Fort Lauderdale when the deep Ballyhoo line ripped off drag – we had a nice Black Fin Tuna on the line. After catching the Tuna we decided to try for something larger. The trolling lines came in, and we set out one kite with two live Goggle Eyes as baits. We also put out two Shark baits – one on the surface and one deep down. Once set up, we kept the live baits on the surface and the Shark baits in line. All of sudden, we had a huge bite on the surface bait, and the line ripped out. Jeremy was the angler and started fighting the Shark. After a good battle, Jeremy got the Shark to the side of the boat – it was a Hammerhead. We were able to get the hooks out, snapped a few photos and released the Shark.

It was now time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
