Randall Duppe, along with his wife and two daughters from Texas chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. When the Duppe’s boarded the boat, they requested to catch Mahi Mahi’s or any eating fish. I informed them that in the past few days, Mahi fishing had been very slow, but Kingfish and Tunas have been feeding.

Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started trolling with two planners with sea witches on both planners in front of a double hooked Bonito strips, along with four surface baits. As we trolled the reefs ranging from 80 ft. of water out past the drop off to 180 ft. The whole family took turns catching five Kingfish, four Bonitos and two Barracudas.

At this point, Randall requested to look for Mahi Mahi’s – even being slow for the past two days, I listened to the anglers request and went off shore. I trolled out and hit the depth of 850 ft. of water, but not luck. I did not come across any weed lines, birds, rips or floating debris that would hold the Mahi Mahi’s, but no luck. On the way in, a black shadow appeared on the right long. Sailfish! The bill came out of the water, swatting at the Ballyhoo bait. A swing and a miss and he faded off. There he is again on the center rigger! We tried to entice him to bite, but no luck.

It was now time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316. At the dock the fish, our mate, Dave, filet the fish for the anglers to take home for dinner.

Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak

We had a group of guys on a bachelor party from Charlotte, North Carolina that chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. We had hot summertime weather in the high 80’s today, with calm seas and a light easterly wind. As the guys boarded the boat, they told us that they wanted to see action and catch some fish to put on the grill

Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started the morning charter trolling the reef in 120 ft. of water using a trolling spoon on one deep planner line and a sea witch on the second deep line. I worked the area from 100 ft. of water out to 200 ft. of water searching for the school of fish. We started getting action early on in the trip with the first bite on the sea witch. The first catch was a 30 lb. Wahoo – line screaming and pulling drag – Matt was the angler, and he did a good job bringing the fish to the side of the boat. The mate reached down, gagged the fish and put the Wahoo on ice. We continued trolling the reef catching Bonitos. They were weighing about 8 to 9 pounds each and getting bites on the spoon and surface rigger lines.

Next, we started catching Kingfish on the sea witch, and they were weighing about 10 pounds each. They were biting in shallower water along with the Bonitos. We continued catching Kingfish, Bonitos and four Barracudas for the better part of the morning. All of the Barracudas were released.

We decided to try deeper waters around a wreck, so we trolled the area and got a nice fish on, rigger line came down and line screaming off the reel. The fish started jumping and, low and behold, we had a Sailfish on. Scott got the reel and started fighting the Sailfish. We got some nice jumps out of the Sailfish, and after a good battle, Scott got the Sailfish to the side of the boat. Pictures were taken, the hook was removed and the Sailfish was released. Lines back in the water, and we went even deeper. I found a nice weed line, and caught a few more Barracudas.

It was now time to head back to the dock in Fort Lauderdale. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.

Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak

Matthew and Julie Goldwasser, their children, Sue and Ari, and the grandparents all from Massachusetts chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. As Matt boarded the boat with his wife, children and parents, I asked him what type of fish they would be interested in catching. They wanted to catch eating fish, preferably Mahi Mahi.

For the past couple of days there was one wreck south of Fort Lauderdale in 150 ft. of water that has been holding bait fish. In return, the predators were there feeding on these bait fish.

As we headed towards the wreck, the Goldwasser family was enjoying the blue skies and great Fort Lauderdale weather. As we got close to the wreck, one of our planner rods tripped with a swing and a miss. Then, the other planner rod tripped – we got lucky with this one – fish on. Matt reeled in the first fish which was an 8 lb. Kingfish. We continued trolling around the wreck catching a couple of Barracudas and an Amberjack.

From there I headed towards another wreck which was close by and the depth recorded marked a lot of bait fish there. Both children participated in reeling in their fishes – a Kingfish and a good size Barracuda.

It was now time to head back to the dock in Fort Lauderdale with a total of four Kingfish, two Barracudas, one Amberjack and two Bonitos. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316. At the dock, our mate, Dave, filet out the fish for the family to take home for dinner. No Mahi Mahi, but still good fresh fish for dinner.

Robert and Kendrick Berryman, along with their son, Leighton, and daughter, Claire, from Austin, Texas chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. I used a trolling spoon on one deep planner line and a sea witch on the 2nd deep line, and worked the area from 100 ft. of water out to 200 ft. of water searching for the school of fish. Our first bite came from the line with the trolling spoon. Leighton was the angler, and he caught a 10 lb. Kingfish. Our mate gaffed the Kingfish and put it in the fish box on ice. Next, we started catching more Kingfish on the line with the sea witch – they each weighed about 9 lbs. The Kingfish were biting in shallower water along with the Bonitas today – we continued catching Kingfish with steady action.

I decided to try deeper waters around a wreck so we headed south of Fort Lauderdale, trolled the area and caught a Barracuda. I continued trolling the area and caught two more Barracudas. Next, we worked south of the greater reef area of Fort Lauderdale and had a Sailfish up in the spread. The Sailfish started jumping, and we had the Sailfish on. For a short time the Sailfish was fighting before it got off, which was a disappointment. Lines were put back in the water and we headed for deeper waters north of Fort Lauderale. I found a nice weed line and continued to work the weeds until the end of the charter.

It was now time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.

Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak

Cindy Iron and her family chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started trolling in 150 feet of water with our best spread of 4 surface lines which included Ballyhoos, strips and chugger baits and two deep plainer lines with spoons and Bonito strips.

We started getting bites around the sea buoy off of Fort Lauderdale. We had a light northerly current, and as we were trolling to the north, we stopped getting bites. So I changed directions and started heading back to the south of Fort Lauderdale at a slower speed – we then started getting more bites, which were Bonitos. What also worked was heading from shallow waters to deep waters diagonally and then back to shallow waters again. This works especially good when we are working a group of fish. We got one Kingfish weighing 8 to 9 lbs. and hooked into Bonitos weighing about the same, 8 to 9 lbs. The best bites we were getting were on the spoon and on the deep plainer lines.

With a total of 1 Kingfish and 9 Bonitos, it was not time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.

Chris and Christy Done, along with their son, Kevin, and friend Katherine Humpreys, all locals, chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The family was looking for good fishing action, and that is what we set out to accomplish.

We left the marina, and once we got out past the jetties, I made a right and headed to the south of Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We headed out to about four miles to the southeast of Fort Lauderdale, where there had been some decent fishing action the previous day, and started fishing. We put out our best spread of four surface lines, which included three Ballyhoos and one surface chugger bait and two deep plainer lines – one with a 3 inch blue spoon and the other with a sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonito strip.

As we started trolling the reef, we soon started getting action. The long plainer rod started pulling drag and fish was on. Kevin was our angler – he grabbed the rod and started reeling in a Kingfish. Kevin brought the Kingfish to the side of the boat – Joe, our mate, wired 80 feet of leader line, while reaching over and grabbing the gaff. He gaffed the Kingfish, pulled him into the boat and into the fish box. This action was repeated over and over for the rest of the trip.

With a total of 10 Kingfish, two Bonitos and two big Blue Runners, it was now time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316. At the dock, Joe filet out the fish for the anglers to take home and enjoy for dinner.

The Gregg Family, Jack and Roni, along with their children, Ashleigh, Austin, and friend, Matt, chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep-sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL

Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water by the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started off trolling with two #8 plainers down – one with a pink and blue sea witch in front of a double hooked Bonito strip, the other was a white and blue sea witch in front of a double hooked Mullet strip. For surface baits we went with two Ballyhoos and two Bonito strips.

We trolled the reefs ranging from 80 ft. of water out pass the drop off to 190 ft. There was a sporty east wind blowing which pushed the deep blue water all the way into the second reef. There are three reefs before the drop off in Fort Lauderdale. Our first strike came on one of the plainers – Matt was our angler and reeled in a Kingfish. Thereafter, Ashleigh caught a couple of Bonitos and Austin caught a 3 ft. Remora.

We kept trolling in and out over the reefs. I could see some birds working the area a little deeper, so we headed over to that spot. A couple of Mahi Mahi’s popped up – Austin and Ron were our anglers and they reeled in a couple of Mahi Mahi’s. Our plainer rod tripped, line started screaming out as the Sailfish jumped out of the water – hooked up. Jack was our angler and after a tug of war, he brought the Sailfish to the side of the boat for picture taking. Alex, our mate, removed the hook, and released the Sailfish to swim away.

With a total of two Mahi Mahi’s, one Kingfish, two Bonitos, one Remora and one Sailfish, it was now time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.

Eric Woodke, Craig Brown and Kyle & Chris Krzewina were down from Wisconsin on a working vacation when they decided to charter the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep-sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Erik and his friends were looking for eatable fish to have a fish fry and also some fish to take back to Green Bay, Wisconsin, so our objective was targeting eating fish.

We headed out the inlet and started trolling by the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore at 120 ft. of water. If you venture off another quarter of a mile, you would find yourself in 500 ft. of water due to our extreme drop off.

We put out two #8 plainers – one with a blue and pink sea witch in front of a Bonito strip and for the long plainer rod, we put out a 3 ½ blue reflector drone spoon. For surface baits we went with two Ballyhoos and two Bonito strips. I trolled from one artificial wreck to the other, which consists of barges, sailboats, oil rigs, freighters, etc., ranging in 80 ft. of water out to 540 ft. – we have approximately 34 artificial wrecks in Fort Lauderdale.

As the action started, all the anglers took turns bringing in their catches, as well as taking pictures and recording their angling and fishing abilities, while the cheering on and razing occurred. We would up with a total of 13 Bonitos, four Black Fin Tunas, one Skip Jack Tuna and two Kingfish. Plenty of fish for the grill tonight and to take back home to Green Bay, Wisconsin.

It was time to get back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316. At the dock, David, our mate, fillet out the fish for the anglers.

Darrell and Charmaigne Pullen from Kentucky changed their flight to stay one more day here in Fort Lauderdale to go fishing on the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep-sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. As the anglers boarded the boat, I asked Darrell what type of fishing he was interested in, and his response was, “I would love to catch a Sailfish or Shark”.

We headed out the inlet and started trolling by the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore at 120 ft. of water. If you venture off another quarter of a mile, you would find yourself in 500 ft. of water due to our extreme drop off.

We put out two #8 plainers with sea witches and doubled hooked Bonito strips. For surface baits we went with 4 Ballyhoos. We trolled the reefs ranging from 70 ft. of water out to 180 ft. of water, zig zagging in and out. We kept trolling to the north and headed towards some of our 34 artificial wrecks here in Fort Lauderdale. We started catching Kingfish around one wreck that sits in 150 ft. of water. The anglers took turns bringing in their catches and wound up with 6 Kingfish – one weighing in at 13 lbs.

The water was looking right to fly the kite, so we put out the kite with two live baits. We also put out Shark baits – one on the surface, one midrange and one on the bottom in 250 ft. of water. Sailfish on the short kite bait! The Sailfish came right out of the water jumping – what a site! Darrell was the angler, and did a great job bringing the Sailfish to the side of the boat. Dave, the mate, grabbed the bill for picture taking – it was a big Sailfish weighing 65 lb. Good job Darrell!

It was now time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
