Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak

Sean Stevenson, Dan Holiday and Brad Holiday from Florida and Utah chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started trolling the reefs using two deep planner lines with sea witch bait strips and three surface lines with Ballyhoo. There was a strong north current with scattered weeds along the reef. We trolled from 100 feet of water out to 200 feet of water heading to the south of Fort Lauderdale into the current, fishing up the current edge and back over the reef, looking for birds and baitfish. Our first bite, a Kingfish, was in 130 ft. of water. We kept on trolling and caught another 10 lb Kingfish. The next two fish we caught were Bonitas, which we got on the 3 inch drone spoon. We were trolling over wrecks and rock piles along the reef line south of Fort Lauderdale, and the best area was in 150 ft. of water.

The guys wanted something big, so we tried going for a Shark. We put out three baits, two on the bottom and one midrange. It did not take long before we got a Shark bite – an 8 foot Hammerhead Shark ate the bottom bait, and we had this Shark on. Rod bending over and drag ripping out! The Shark pulled out 100 yards of drag and sounded – the angler was Sean, and he did a great job. Each run was less, but still put on a show. After 35 minutes of fighting the Shark, we got it along the side the boat for a photo, cut out the hook, and released the Shark to fight another day.

It was now time to head back to the dock in Fort Lauderdale. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.

Chad, Randy, Pete, Ramon, Anthony and Tyler from South Carolina, chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Fifteen to twenty minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started the morning trolling the reefs with three surface lines and two deep lines. We had nice conditions with light easterly winds but there was a lot of sea weed. It was a little difficult to fish because of the large weed clusters.

We started working the reef from shallow to deep waters searching for fish from 100 feet of water to 300 feet of water. We got our first bite on the deep plainer line. As we were bringing in the fish, something larger got the Tuna and we only brought in a Tuna head. We will never know what got a hold of it, but it was probably a Shark or Barracuda.

We continued trolling, and got a nice bite on the plainer rod in 150 ft. of water, which turned out to be a Bonito. Lines went back in the water, and we worked the reef going over wrecks and rock structures off of Fort Lauderdale. The deep plainer rod went off again, and we got another Bonito.

The guys wanted to try some Shark fishing, so we brought in our trolling spread and went out to deeper waters. I rigged three baits and set them out in different depths – surface, midrange and bottom. All of a sudden, drag started ripping out of the bottom rod, and a Shark was on. Chad was the angler and started fighting the Hammerhead Shark. After an awesome fight, Chad got the Shark to the side of the boat – we took the hooks out and released the Hammerhead. Great job on catching that Shark, Chad!

It was now time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.

Scott and Ashley Magliavo, from Houston, Texas, along with their friends chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep-sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. As the anglers the boarded the boat, I asked Scott what type of fishing he was interested in, and his response was that any fish will do.

We headed out the inlet and started trolling by the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore at 120 ft. of water. If you venture off another quarter of a mile, you would find yourself in 500 ft. of water due to our extreme drop off.

We put out two #8 plainers with sea witches and doubled hooked Bonito strips. For surface baits we went with 4 Ballyhoos. We trolled the reefs ranging from 80 ft. of water out to 200 ft. of water, zig zagging in and out. We kept trolling to the south and headed towards some of our 34 artificial wrecks here in Fort Lauderdale ranging from tug boats to 504 ft. freighters. We started catching Kingfish around one wreck that sits in 104 ft. of water. The anglers took turns bringing in their catches and wound up with 8 Kingfish “ one weighing in at 14 lbs.

As we trolled back to the sea buoy in Ft. Lauderdale, we caught three other Bonitos. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.

Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak

Matt Gasparro from Phoenix, AZ was down in Fort Lauderdale on a business convention held by Cisco, along with Todd, Chris, Kim and Dave and decided to charter the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Fifteen/twenty minutes after leaving the dock, we were fishing by the sea buoy north of Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started off trolling with two plainers down, one with a pink and blue sea witch and the other with a blue and white sea witch, both had double hooked Bonito strips. For surface baits we went with two Mullet strips and two Bonito strips. As we trolled the reefs, ranging from 80 ft. out to 200 ft. of water, we got a couple of short Kingfish bites and caught a couple of Bonitos.

From there we decided to do some Shark fishing and headed out to 300 ft. of water. In the past few days, we have caught three Thresher Sharks out here, and now we were hoping to catch #4. We put out one surface, midrange and bottom Shark baits. It did not take too long before a dorsal fin popped up by the surface bait – hooked up. The Shark peeled off the line from the 80 International Reel. Matt was our angler and he jumped into the fighting to do battle. After a 45 minute battle, Mark, our mate, grabbed a hold of the leader and wired in the Hammerhead Shark. Pictures were taken, hooks were removed and the Shark was set free to fight again. Congratulations Matt on a job well done.

It was now time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316. At the dock, Matt filet the Mahi for the anglers to enjoy for tonight’s dinner.

Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak

Tonya, Derey, Phillip and Brandon from Greensboro, North Carolina, chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. The goal was to catch their first Sailfish, and this is what we set out to accomplish.

Sailfish have been coming along the reef in 130 ft. of water, so we decided to slow troll naked Ballyhoos down the reef. We trolled north of Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore, from 100 ft. of water out to 400 ft. and back in, looking for schools of live bait, birds and signs of Sailfish feeding. The spread was four naked Ballyhoos and two deep plainers with sea witches with Bonita strips.

After searching for an hour, we got a really nice bite on the sea witch. All of a sudden, a Sailfish came jumping out of the water showing its magnificent colors – Sailfish on! Both Derey and Brandon took turns fighting the Sailfish, and after a good battle, the angler brought the Sailfish to the side of the boat. Matt, our mate, took the hooks out, pictures were taken, and the Sailfish was put back into the water to fight another day.

Still looking to catch another Sailfish, we decided to put out two kites with two live Goggle Eye baits from each kite, continuing to travel north of Fort Lauderdale. We got a real nice bite on the left short – Brandon was the angler, as well as Derey. The anglers fought the Sailfish until he was along the side of the boat. We got the hooks out, pictures were taken and the Sailfish was released. Great job, Brandon and Derey, on catching two Sailfish – no easy feat!

It was now time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
